Why Locals Love DES LE MATIN
Nestled just steps away from the majestic Saint-Pol-de-Léon Cathedral, DES LE MATIN is a charming fast food restaurant and bakery that beautifully blends French patisserie artistry with the comforting simplicity of classic hamburger and hot dog fare. This delightful tea house invites you to savor authentic local flavors in a setting that feels both inviting and steeped in history.
From the moment you arrive, the enticing aroma of freshly baked bread and delicate pastries fills the air, promising a meal that’s as refreshing as it is satisfying. Customers rave about the freshly made baguette sandwiches, with one particularly memorable recommendation being the chèvre miel and walnut sandwich — a harmonious balance of creamy goat cheese, sweet honey, and crunchy walnuts that dances delightfully on the palate.
The menu perfectly caters to varied tastes, whether you're craving a quick, flavorful hot dog or a more leisurely breakfast featuring buttery croissants and espresso-rich coffee. Pair your meal with a crisp local Rosco cider as many have—compliments to the lady in charge who ensures every guest is greeted with warmth and attentiveness. The outdoor seating area, shaded and peaceful, offers an idyllic spot to watch the world go by under the cathedral’s watchful presence.
It's no surprise that visitors returning from long journeys, like the overnight ferry from Plymouth, seek out DES LE MATIN for a comforting breakfast and robust coffee to start their day. The friendly welcome, speedy service, and charming ambiance make it perfect for a quick snack or a relaxed bite away from the hustle and bustle. Though it does get lively during lunchtimes with local school crowds, the lively atmosphere adds to the authentic neighborhood feel.
In essence, DES LE MATIN is more than just a fast food stop—it’s a small culinary haven where the genuine flavors of Brittany come alive through expertly crafted sandwiches, irresistible pastries, and a cozy, sun-dappled setting. Whether you're a local or a traveler discovering the town, this gem promises an experience that delights the senses and warms the spirit.

Pleasant snack place. Fast service. Nice space out of the rain. The Sandwiches were very tasty and fresh. Reasonably priced. Gets busy at lunchtime when the schools empty. October 2024

Lovely place. Clean and tidy. Lady who served was kind. Coffee was good. Nice simple fare. Toilets clean. Great little town to stop at after ferry journey. Very picturesque with bakeries, cafes, supermarket and more: fantastic church.

It's a while since I'd last visited this café/bakery, which is now under new ownership. It's well placed, looking out onto St Pol's lovely cathedral square, having tables outside as well as inside. The service from Madame is fast and friendly, and the café + loo is spotless clean. The big plus for me was that Dés le Matin has excellent WiFi, so is great for receiving and sending emails. There's also no complication with having to sign up for advertising etc. It's a good old fashioned direct link to their router, so I'll be coming here daily to get my mail, read the papers etc along with a fresh croissant and café au lait + a chat with madame. Recommended!

The breakfast was incredible. Pastries, baguettes and coffees were so good we could have ordered the whole thing all over again. It was also excellent value and a superb location.
